Theoretically, this provides a more comfortable grip than traditional Chinese penhold grips. There’s a slanted platform where the thumb and index finger rest, similar to the concave part for the tiger’s mouth on traditional Chinese penhold grips, but it offers greater comfort and facilitates power generation. The shoulder of the handle is cut, shifting the center of gravity forward and making it easier to generate power.So why isn’t this design more popular if it sounds so good? A new product needs time to gain traction. Sanwei doesn’t have the same extensive marketing budget as brands like DHS or Butterfly, so it’s less well-known. Moreover, after getting used to penhold and shakehand grips, people find it hard to adapt to new handle designs. It’s like how seamless balls are theoretically better than seamed balls, but people are more accustomed to the weight distribution of seamed balls. Even with innovative design concepts, there’s no guarantee of market acceptance. Nevertheless, this Su-style large pincer handle is a product born out of a deep passion for table tennis and a desire to contribute to the sport.
